A tale of two protests

The nation’s capital was the setting for two demonstrations over the weekend. There are lessons to be learned from each. Let’s begin with the second event. Environmental activists from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C., Sunday afternoon to express their opposition to the TransCanada pipeline. The Obama Administration is weighing whether to support the pipeline that will carry oil from Alberta to Texas.

The pros and cons are clear: pipeline proponents argue that it will transport oil from a friendly nation, rather than dicey regimes in Arabia and it will create jobs; opponents warn of environmental damage and urge the president to devote more resources to developing alternative fuels.

I am not interested in choosing sides, but you have to admit this is a worthy and focused dispute.
