“The XFL is committed to playing a full season in 2021 and future years,” the league said in a statement at the time.
The league, which is owned by WWE CEO Vince McMahon, was in the middle of its comeback season, a revival after the XFL ran for only a single season in 2001. XFL teams completed half of the regular season, five games, at the time the league was put on pause.
Last week, President Trump discussed resuming sports with the commissioners of leagues in the United States. He urged commissioners to restart their leagues by the fall.
