Instagram promotes ‘pro-eating disorder content,’ profits off it, report claims

Meta’s algorithm on Instagram is promoting “pro-eating disorder content” to some 20 million users, including children as young as 9 years old, according to a report.

Child advocacy group Fairplay published the report Thursday, examining 90,000 accounts accused of promoting eating disorders in what it calls a “bubble.” Accounts in the bubble collectively have some 500,000 followers, with a median age of 19; one-third are underage.
