Ivanka Trump broke her silence on the issue of family separations at the U.S. border on Wednesday, taking to Twitter to thank President Trump for signing an executive order stopping the practice.
“Thank you @POTUS for taking critical action ending family separation at our border,” the first daughter, who is also a White House adviser, tweeted. “Congress must now act + find a lasting solution that is consistent with our shared values;the same values that so many come here seeking as they endeavor to create a better life for their families.”

President Trump signed the order on Wednesday, despite previously saying a 2016 court decision required either family separation or nonenforcement of immigration law.
Ivanka Trump’s tweet follows a report by the Washington Post that said she was lobbying the president behind-the-scenes to prevent minors being taken away from their parents or guardians while the Justice Department prosecutes all illegal crossings of the border. The system of referring all cases to DOJ was introduced as part of the Trump administration’s zero tolerance policy toward illegal immigration.

President Trump told House Republicans at an immigration reform meeting Tuesday evening on Capitol Hill that she was upset by the images of children in detention facilities.
“Can we do anything to stop this?” Ivanka Trump reportedly asked her father, a lawmaker in the meeting told the Washington Post.
