The University of California at Los Angeles was on lockdown Wednesday morning local time, after a shooting that killed two people and sent police and federal agents scrambling to the university.
LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the shooting took place in an engineering building and may have been a possible murder-suicide.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported two men were killed around 10 a.m. local time in California. The university immediately notified students of the shooting and implemented lockdown procedures.

The local CBS affiliate was showing pictures of the university, and interviewing students who were saying many were staying in their residences as police investigate.
At approximately noon local time, the campus reopened. Classes have been canceled for the rest of the day.
Law enforcement said they will continue to search the building where the incident took place.

The White House said President Obama had been briefed on the situation while on board Air Force 1.
