Having escaped a prison sentence a day earlier, a Baltimore man was shot to death Wednesday in the same Lansdowne neighborhood where he riddled his ex-girlfriend?s front door with bullets, authorities said.
Warren L. Porter, 24, of the 900 block of Lenton Avenue, was shot in the upper body Wednesday afternoon in an apartment entrance in the 2900 block of Lakebrook Circle, police said. He died Thursday morning at St. Agnes Hospital.
Porter had just pleaded guilty Tuesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to first-degree assault and received a 15-year suspended prison sentence for shooting the woman?s door, prosecutor Jennifer Schiffer said.
Authorities do not believe the assault and Porter?s murder are connected.
The couple apparently had an argument over their break-up and Porter warned the woman he would come over and shoot up her house, Schiffer said. The woman got scared and left her home until a neighbor called to say she?d better come back, because there were bullet holes in her door, the prosecutor said.
Porter then reportedly called the woman with more threats, at which point she phoned the police to report him. Despite her initial statements against Porter, the woman grew less cooperative with authorities as time passed and eventually changed her story, Schiffer said, denying that he ever threatened her.
Porter?s attorney said he and the woman got back together as the case moved along.
Remembered as a generous and charismatic person by his three sisters and brother, Porter was getting his life together after a period of trouble, a family member said.
He came to court Tuesday with a Bible, and pleaded guilty to the assault in exchange for a suspended prison sentence, attorneys said. He was out one day on probation when he was shot in the same neighborhood where his ex-girlfriend lived, police and court records said.
