The current showrunner for “The Simpsons” poked fun at Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and the Republican Party Thursday, saying even fictional character “Mr. Burns” would consider becoming a Democrat “the way things are going” for the GOP in the age of Trump.
“.@TheSimpsons Ted Cruz says Maggie Simpson would vote for him. I think Ted’s the one who could use a pacifier in his mouth,” Al Jean wrote on Twitter.
“.@TheSimpsons The way things are going even Mr. Burns is thinking of becoming a Democrat,” the screenwriter and producer added.

Earlier Thursday, Cruz appeared to call Democrats elitist during an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., by saying they were “the party of Lisa Simpson, and Republicans are happily the party of Homer, Bart, Maggie, and Marge.”
In one episode of the long-running animated sitcom, Charles Montgomery Burns endorses 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in his role as “chief” of the Springfield Republican Party.
Lisa Simpson, on the other hand, champions liberal causes in her story arc.
Jean previously revealed in July the show turned down a request from President Trump to guest star in the series.
