Estate home with all the extras

Mary Kate Cleary’s home is a labor of love.

She and brother Michael Pfau, owner of Trinity Homes, Woodstock, collaborated on every detail of 1413 Macphail Road, which Pfau built in 2006.

Neither stinted on quality. Built of rounded water table brick, the exterior has architectural details galore, including steeply pitched gables, multiple roof lines and intricate brick patterns around windows and doors, Cleary explained.

“The house has curb appeal as well as being elegant and warm inside,” she said. It’s now on the market for $999,900.

Windows are high-end Kolbe, their mullions molded, Colonial-style, to the glass.  The 10-foot first floor offers several decorative ceilings – coffered, for instance, in the family room and an ornate tray in the dining room, where a sparkling chandelier descends from a medallion to illuminate deep wainscoting and trim.

Cleary and her brother chose top-end stainless kitchen appliances to coordinate with custom Wood-Mode cherry and glazed white cabinets: A Sub-Zero frig, a Wolf oven, six-burner gas range and combination microwave/convection oven, ASKO dishwasher and Moen bronze-finish fixtures. Carved wood corbels support granite countertops and a custom mantle over the cook top.

The spacious first-floor master bedroom suite with sitting room features a cozy two-sided gas fireplace, pointed out listing agent Tom Coard, Yerman Witman Gaines & Conklin, Bel Air. “There’s also a wet bar and built-in bedroom cabinetry for a big-screen TV, one of several such set-ups,” he said.

Perfect for kicking back, the master bath is floored in marble with tile backsplash, a deep tub, double sinks and custom cherry cabinets. French doors exit onto a brick patio and private backyard.

Upstairs are three more bedrooms, each with its own bathroom; reach the second floor via a curved main staircase or back stairs near the office/den.

Five minutes from I-95, the house is close to golf courses, the water and parks; Maryland Golf and Country Club is right down the road, and Bulle Rock, the Chesapeake and Gunpowder Falls State Park are all nearby.

So is Bel Air. “It’s a revitalized town, and fun to go there,” said Patti Pearce, who owns Flowers by Design on Main Street . “Locals hang out at Sean Boland’s Irish Pub or Looney’s Pub” [an outpost of the Canton pub scene], she said.

People also flock to the nearby Main Street Tower and the Greene Turtle Sports Bar & Grille.
