Video shows Prius broken into and robbed while sitting in San Francisco traffic

A driver watched and videotaped as a man robbed a vehicle in broad daylight during a traffic jam in San Francisco on Friday.

Video shows a hooded thief exiting a black vehicle, busting the back window of a Prius and speeding off with a bag as two people can be seen frantically leaving exiting car to intercede near the on-ramp heading east on I-80.

The victims, Ben and his wife Masha, who was driving, told ABC 7 that the thief escaped with more than $7,000 in camera equipment after they were followed from a photo shoot. Ben told the outlet that he and Masha are real estate photographers.

The couple filed a police report. A GoFundMe for the Iranian couple has raised over $1,800 at the time of publishing.

In 2020, San Francisco saw a 51% rise in burglaries, a 36% rise in motor vehicle thefts, and a 40% uptick in arson. There were 7,847 burglaries last year compared to 4,962 in 2019. Violent crimes such as rapes, robberies, and assaults, were down in 2020.
