Trump publicly shames Jeff Sessions over investigation into alleged FISA abuses

President Trump called out Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Twitter Wednesday morning over the Justice Department’s investigation into alleged abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act under the Obama administration.

Trump asked his 48.4 million followers on Twitter why Inspector General Michael Horowitz will be investigating, instead of Justice Department lawyers. Trump called such a decision “DISGRACEFUL!”

“Why is A.G. Jeff Sessions asking the Inspector General to investigate potentially massive FISA abuse,” Trump wrote. “Will take forever, has no prosecutorial power and already late with reports on Comey etc. Isn’t the I.G. an Obama guy? Why not use Justice Department lawyers? DISGRACEFUL!”

Horowitz has been reviewing the FBI and Justice Department’s handling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of private email server while she was secretary of state.

Trump has argued that the Obama administration used FISA to unlawfully spy on his transition team.
