Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton is showing real signs of vulnerability, and the controversy surrounding her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state has gone from bad to worse, NBC News host Chuck Todd said Wednesday.
“This is no longer — she can’t just say this is a partisan witch hunt by the House Republicans,” Todd said. “The FBI is now investigating, regarding the classified info situation. And, look, the best explanation still questions her initial judgment of why did she do this in the first place. And really, [it seems] the only motivation [was] to avoid Freedom of Information Act requests. It feels as if that is the only reasons that she did this.”
Todd said that while the scandal is a huge issue for her, he’s still not sure if it’s enough to stop her from getting the Democratic Party’s nomination.
His comments came shortly after Clinton tried in a disastrous press conference Tuesday to answer questions about the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s probe into her use of the private, unauthorized server. Clinton cut the press briefing short after she appeared flummoxed by a series of questions from Fox News’ Ed Henry.
“Look … [Clinton] is certainly, I think, appears more vulnerable than ever. I think the fact that you have the three letters here that made this email story here sort of go to another level of seriousness is FBI,” Todd said Wednesday during a discussion on CNBC.
The NBC News anchor’s remarks also come on the heels of rumors that Vice President Joe Biden is giving serious consideration to launching a 2016 bid.
