Ivanka Trump surprised by ‘viciousness,’ ‘ferocity’ in Washington

Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter and close adviser, admitted Monday that she wasn’t quite prepared for the “viciousness” and “ferocity” she and her family are facing in Washington, D.C., after her father’s election.

“It is hard, and there is a level of viciousness that I was not expecting,” she said on Fox News when asked how she copes with attacks from Democrats and the press. “I was not expecting the intensity of this experience.”

“But this isn’t supposed to be easy,” she said. “My father and this administration intends to be transformative, and we want to do big, bold things. And we’re looking to change the status quo.”

President Trump has been criticized nonstop by Democrats not only for his efforts to clamp down on illegal immigration and cut back on the size of government, but for his alleged ties to Russia, which U.S. intelligence officials say tried to interfere with last year’s election.

Several Democrats have admitted there is no evidence yet that Trump colluded with Russia, and Trump last week said former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony absolved him of that.

Ivanka Trump dismissed some of those events as “distractions,” but acknowledged they can make things difficult.

“So, I didn’t expect it to be easy,” she said. “Some of the distractions and some of the ferocity was … I was a little blindsided by it on a personal level.”
