Mitt Romney blasted critics of John McCain as the Republican senator battles an aggressive form of brain cancer.
After multiple instances of people mocking McCain gripped headlines this week, Romney, who is running for a U.S. Senate seat in Utah, defended the man who preceded him as the Republican presidential nominee.
“John McCain makes America great. Father, grandfather, Navy pilot, POW hero bound by honor, an incomparable and irrepressible statesman. Those who mock such greatness only humiliate themselves and their silent accomplices,” he wrote.

White House official Kelly Sadler came under fire for mocking McCain’s health after he called for his Senate colleagues to reject Gina Haspel’s nomination for CIA director.
“It doesn’t matter, he’s dying anyway,” said Sadler, a special assistant to the president, during a private meeting at the White House earlier this week.
Fox News and Fox Business Network banned retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas McInerney from appearing on the networks after he said torture worked on McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam.
Among those defending McCain this week was Sarah Palin, his 2008 running mate, who said she would never “disparage someone who has served our country.”
