Trump invites Asian leaders to White House amid tensions with North Korea

President Trump on Sunday invited the leaders of Thailand and Singapore the the White House amid growing tensions over North Korea’s nuclear ambitions.

Trump talked on the phone with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of Thailand and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore, according to the White House.

They “expressed a strong shared interest in strengthening” trade and economic ties, the White House said.

The calls also discussed the need to address robust cooperation on security matters, the White House added.

The White House said the relationship between Singapore and Thailand is marked by “thriving trade and investment, robust security cooperation, and close collaboration on regional and global challenges.”

The calls concluded with Trump extending an invitation for both countries to visit Washington.
