Former President Bill Clinton called President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday afternoon to congratulate him on winning the election less than 48 hours prior, according to an aide.
During the brief call, the Democratic nominee’s husband congratulated the billionaire businessman on his win and wished him well. Clinton was the final recent president to call Trump, after George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush reached out to him on Wednesday.
Trump and wife Melania met President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for the first time ever at the White House earlier Thursday. The two said their initial hour-and-a-half talk was a success and will continue to talk during this 10-week transition of presidents.
