A woman suffering from COVID-19 said she woke up from a medically induced coma to find out she gave birth to her daughter.
Angela Primachenko of Washington state said she was pregnant when she began showing signs of the coronavirus and was admitted to the hospital, according to ABC 13.
“Like, you know that kind of cough. And then it kind of got a little bit worse, and then I started having a hard time breathing at night,” Primachenko recounted.
The expectant mother said that after the symptoms became worse, she was placed on a ventilator. Her twin sister, Oksana Luiten, said the family was very worried about her.
“All of us were just like, ‘God, if you don’t come through, we might lose our sister,’” Luiten said.
While Primachenko was in the coma, she gave birth to her daughter Ava at 34 weeks, which is premature.
“I wasn’t sure where I was. I was very confused,” Primachenko recalled after waking up from the coma. “I didn’t have a belly anymore, didn’t know where my baby was. I was in isolation. I hadn’t been able to see my husband.”
After giving birth, Primachenko began to recover and was removed from the ventilator. Since then, she has been removed from the intensive care unit and is recovering at home, although she has yet to see Ava because she is still testing positive for the virus.
“I’m just taking it every day at a time and just kind of trying to regain my strength and core and muscles,” Primachenko said.
