Orgies and cocaine: Cawthorn claims Congress is similar to House of Cards

Power, corruption, money, orgies, and cocaine? Rep. Madison Cawthorn raised eyebrows when he indicated that Netflix‘s House of Cards emulates how Congress operates in real life.

Without naming names, the young congressman claimed that political leaders he “looked up to” invited him to an orgy and did cocaine in front of him.

“I look at a lot of these people, a lot of them that I’ve looked up to through my life — I’ve always paid attention to politics — then all of a sudden you get invited to, ‘Oh hey, we’re going to have a sexual get-together at one of our homes, you should come,'” he claimed. “And then you realize that they’re asking you to come to an orgy.”

His remarks came during an interview with John Lovell for the Warrior Poet Society. Cawthorn, 26, echoed former President Bill Clinton’s assertion that the vast majority of the show was accurate, except the government could never get an education bill done that quickly.

In addition to claiming that “sexual perversion” was rampant in Congress, he also accused members of Congress of doing illicit drugs.

“There are some guys leading on the movement to end addiction in our country, and then you watch them do a key bump of cocaine right in front of you,” he added.

Cawthorn contended there is a “currency of secrets” in Washington, D.C., and that media outlets will reserve stories for leverage to “bully” politicians into taking certain positions.

“There’s members of the media, the journalists who kinda will keep nasty stories about you or about other people on a shelf, and then what if you’re about to speak out against something they don’t want you to, they’ll come out and say, ‘Oh, well, we’re about to drop the story of 17 years ago you did X, Y, and Z,” he explained.

The Washington Examiner reached out to a spokesperson for comment and names but did not receive a response.

Elected to Congress in 2020 to Mark Meadows’s old seat, Cawthorn has been known to make jarring statements on occasion. Three weeks ago, he drew a rare rebuke from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for labeling Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “thug.” Cawthorn will hop over to North Carolina’s new 13th Congressional District for his 2022 reelection bid — he currently represents the 11th District.
