President Trump will nominate Chad Wolf, who has overseen the Department of Homeland Security on a temporary basis since November, to lead the federal department.

“I am pleased to inform the American Public that Acting Secretary Chad Wolf will be nominated to be the Secretary of Homeland Security. Chad has done an outstanding job and we greatly appreciate his service!” Trump tweeted Tuesday afternoon.

Wolf was named acting secretary last fall after then-acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan resigned from the post. Wolf was the former chief of staff to McAleenan’s predecessor, Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who departed in April 2019. He is the fifth person to lead DHS since Trump took office in January 2017.
