Chris Christie says President Trump only gives nicknames to people he doesn’t respect, and noted that he doesn’t have a nickname for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
At the New York home of hedge fund billionaire Steven Cohen on Tuesday, Christie told stories about Trump and specifically mentioned the potential of the president giving out more nicknames to Democrats during the 2020 campaign, according to Axios.
“If he respects you, you don’t get a nickname, because he’s afraid what’s going to come back,” Christie said Tuesday at the New York home of hedge fund billionaire Steven Cohen.
When it comes to Pelosi, “it’s just Nancy,” Christie said. “And if she doesn’t have a nickname by now, she ain’t getting any.”
He noted Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s nickname, “Cryin’ Chuck Schumer,” as an example of one of the nicknames Trump uses to show he has no respect for certain lawmakers.
Trump also often used nicknames during the 2016 presidential campaign against his GOP opponents, like “Lyin’ Ted” Cruz, and his primary Democrat competition, “Crooked Hillary” Clinton.
The former governor of New Jersey is just coming off of a tour promoting his memoir Let Me Finish, which details his insights into the Trump presidency from the president’s inner circle.
