Symone Sanders on tackling Biden protester: ‘It was a split-second’ decision

Symone Sanders, a senior adviser to Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, said she “didn’t think” much before she tackled a protester who had rushed the stage at the former vice president’s campaign event.

“It was a split-second moment,” Sanders said Wednesday on Fox News. “Our security acted very quickly, and then a number of staffers, including myself, jumped in to have Vice President Biden, Dr. Biden, and Valerie Biden Owens’s back as they were on the stage. And so I don’t think we even really thought. We just saw what was happening and jumped in. We’re happy no one was hurt.”

Sanders joked about breaking a fingernail but said she planned on getting it fixed “right after” the interview.

Two anti-dairy protesters rushed the stage Tuesday night as Biden declared victory over his Super Tuesday performance. “Let dairy die!” the protesters shouted before one was intercepted by a security guard and taken away and Sanders rushed to stop the other one.

A similar protest happened at a Sen. Bernie Sanders rally in Nevada last month. Two women ran on the stage topless and poured milk on themselves to protest the dairy industry.

The latest protest was quickly drowned out by Biden’s crowd, which booed the demonstrators. Symone Sanders was widely lauded for her quick reaction to the situation.
