Trump: US working ‘very closely’ with Thai government to rescue boys trapped in cave

President Trump declared Sunday the U.S. is helping the Thai government to help rescue a group of 12 children out a cave in Thailand.

“The U.S. is working very closely with the Government of Thailand to help get all of the children out of the cave and to safety. Very brave and talented people!” Trump tweeted.

The tweet came as Royal Thai Navy SEALs confirmed that four boys had been evacuated. The rescue operation was the first since the boys, aged 11 to 16, and their soccer coach went missing 15 days ago.

Trump did not elaborate on what help the U.S. is providing to the Thai government, however, American divers — part of a team from the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command — are assisting the international rescue effort.

Billionaire Elon Musk promised earlier in the week that he would send SpaceX and Boring Company engineers to Thailand to help with the rescue operation in the Tham Luang cave complex, and suggested a couple options, including drilling holes into the cave or using an inflatable tube.
