Two more officials ousted in Puerto Rico in wake of Maria aid scandal

A pair of government officials in Puerto Rico were fired amid a controversy regarding mismanaged Hurricane relief aid sent from the U.S. mainland in the wake of Hurricane Maria.

Housing Secretary Fernando Gil and Department of Family Secretary Glorimar Andujar were dismissed Sunday by Puerto Rican Gov. Wanda Vazquez, according to Fox News.

The ouster of the two high-ranking public officials comes days after the U.S. territory fired its emergency manager once investigators found a warehouse full of supplies that never were distributed to the public.

The 2017 storm resulted in more than 3,000 deaths on the island and billions of dollars in damage.

Last week, the Trump administration said it was lifting a hold on billions in aid to the country. President Trump has criticized the local government in Puerto Rico, where FBI agents last year arrested high-ranking leaders who funneled aid money to business and other places.
