Akridge family gives $1m for Mall

The Akridge Family Foundation has given $1 million to support the preservation of the National Mall.

The Trust for the National Mall, which John E. “Chip” Akridge III founded, announced the gift on Monday. Akridge founded the D.C. development company that bears his name and owns more than a dozen office properties in Northwest.

The Akridge gift came about a month after David Rubenstein gave $7.5 million to the trust to assist in the repair of the Washington Monument after the 5.8-magnitude earthquake that shook the District in August, damaging the obelisk.
