Ed Berkowitz, chairman of the adult education committee at Baltimore?s Beth El Congregation, helped select the interviews that will be shown in Baltimore from this spring?s series of “Live from NY?s 92nd Street Y,” a satellite broadcast program of 92nd Street Y.
The series will begin with an interview with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20. The live feeds can be viewed for free at the synagogue at 8101 Park Heights Ave., Baltimore.
Berkowitz spoke with The Examiner about the series.
What is 92nd Street Y?
It?s a Young Men?s and Young Women?s Hebrew Association in New York City noted for its cultural arts programs. “Live from NY?s 92nd Street Y” is a program of live feeds and one of their features along with lectures and panel discussions.
What will Albright speak about?
She?ll be interviewed by James F. Hoge Jr., editor of Foreign Affairs magazine, about her new book, “Memo to the President Elect: How We Can Restore America?s Reputation and Leadership.”
What do you hope people learn from these interviews with notable guests?
You want to pick current topics that will interest people. And it?s also a way of bringing the community into contact with our temple and adult education programs. Learning is the cornerstone of our religion.
Who are the other guests in the series that will be shown in Baltimore?
Dennis Prager, a well-known radio personality who speaks on Jewish topics, at 8:15 p.m. March 11, nationally syndicated columnist Ellen Goodman at 8 p.m. April 3, and award-winning TV producer Norman Lear at 8:15 p.m. April 28.
