The Israeli interior minister Aryeh Deri said Rep. Rashida Tlaib had more “hatred for Israel” than she had “love for her grandmother” after the Michigan Democrat turned down an offer to come to the West Bank to visit her family.
“I authorized this humanitarian trip, but it turns out that it was a provocation to embarrass Israel. Her hatred for Israel overcomes her love for her grandmother,” Deri said Friday.

Tlaib, 43, sent a letter Thursday to Deri asking him to allow her to see her family after the Israeli government banned Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar from visiting the country.

After the government approved her appeal to see her family, Tlaib then said she would not visit the country, saying they were “humiliating” her.
“When I won, it gave the Palestinian people hope that someone will finally speak the truth about the inhumane conditions,” the freshman congresswoman said Friday. “I can’t allow the State of Israel to take away that light by humiliating me & use my love for my sity to bow down to their oppressive & racist policies.”

The Israeli government initially banned Tlaib from coming to the country after it was revealed her trip was being funded by the group Miftah, which has a history of publishing anti-Semitic articles and expressing support for Palestinian suicide bombers.
