House Speaker Paul Ryan released a third campaign ad in Wisconsin’s 1st District on Tuesday that touts his commitment to securing the border and bolstering national security.
The ad, “Safe America,” shows Ryan giving a speech about “American exceptionalism and the importance of preserving and protecting our freedom and liberty.”
Ryan, a Republican, is facing an Aug. 9 primary challenge from Paul Nehlen, a water filtration company CEO. Nehlen is trailing Ryan in the polls but has received the endorsement of former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin and a Twitter shout-out this week from Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.
Nehlen, who is critical of Ryan’s stance on immigration refrom, released an ad last week featuring the mother of a man killed by an illegal immigrant.
In the new Ryan ad, the speaker tells a crowd, “attacks have shown us that terrorists want to destroy our freedom and security. I am committed to supporting our military and intelligence officials, and I am committed to securing our borders.”
