Police arrest teen in slaying

Baltimore County police arrested a Middle River teenager after Friday?s slaying of another Baltimore County teen.

Police have charged 18-year-old Jaquane Donte Gross with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Davon Lopez, 16, of Perry Hall.

Police responded to the 3900 block of Bayville Road in Middle River after receiving calls for shots fired Friday.

Residents said they heard several people in the street fighting and heard several gunshots.

As police arrived, they were flagged down by several people who had put Lopez into a car to take him to the hospital after he had been shot.

Medics arrived at the scene and transported the victim to Franklin Square Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives interviewed several witnesses who identified Gross as the shooter.

One witness told police, “I recognize his face from the shooting,” charging documents state.

Police arrested Gross on Saturday afternoon in the Essex area.

A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined, and it is not known whether the victim was the target of the shooting, police said.

Lopez?s homicide was the 18th this year, compared with 17 this time last year. The police department this year has closed 11 homicide cases.
