Lindsey Graham rolls out 2020 reelection bid with heavy hitters

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham unveiled a statewide team for his 2020 reelection bid that includes top officials from all of the state’s counties and 117 Republican leaders and activists.

Every Republican statewide and congressional elected officials in South Carolina have already endorsed him. He also has the backing of every former leader of the state Republican Party dating back to 1991, with the exception of one person whose employer prohibits him from making an endorsement.

The rollout shows Graham, an ally of President Trump, has essentially secured the Republican nomination in the race, especially given his primary opponents are not well known.

Thus far, two Democrats are competing to take on Graham in the general election: former South Carolina Democratic Party Chairman Jaime Harrison and economist Gloria Bromell Tinubu.

Harrison raised $1.5 million in his first full fundraising quarter, a record amount for a Democratic Senate candidate in the red state.

Graham has also made personal fundraising records, with almost $6.5 million in the bank.

The three-term senator had a double-digit lead over any potential Democratic candidate in a Post and Courier-Change Research poll released in mid-June.
