A man in Sheboygan, Wisconsin was sentenced this week for crimes related to years of intentionally clogging the toilets in public women’s restrooms.
Patrick D. Beeman, 35, was convicted on several counts of criminal damage to property for chronic instances of inserting 20 oz. plastic bottles into the piping of toilets in the women’s room of the Deland Community Center. Prior to his identification and capture, Beeman allegedly clogged the Deland toilets several dozen times. The perpetrator would commit the crimes late at night after the park had emptied. Security cameras revealed that the clogger was a man, but did not provide enough detail to lead to his capture.
He was identified after similar behavior was reported at his places of work where he was placed by a temporary employment agency. The agency manager heard complaints from two different work site placements that Beeman had been intentionally clogging the women’s room toilets with the same plastic bottles.
Beeman told police that he has inexplicable urges to do strange things, such as look through trash for soda bottles and jam them into plumbing. He claimed that he stopped once he learned that he was being investigated, according to the criminal complaint. Beeman will serve 150 days in jail, 30 days for each of the five counts for which he was convicted. He will remain on probation for three years and pay $5,500 in restitution for the damages he caused over the years. He is also prohibited from drinking alcohol or using drugs, and is further required to complete 100 hours of community service.
Of his conviction, Beeman said, “I need to make things right and pray forgiveness every day.”
