The State Department on Tuesday renewed a travel warning to U.S citizens traveling to parts of Mexico, including tourist destinations such as Cancun and Playa del Carmen, due to ongoing homicides in popular areas of the country.
The statement warned U.S. citizens of “gun battles between rival criminal organizations” that have taken place on the streets and in public places during the day and said U.S. citizens have been murdered in carjackings and highway robberies. Most of these crimes occur at night, the department said.
