Israeli police nearing consensus to recommend indicting Benjamin Netanyahu for corruption: Report

Israeli police chiefs are nearing a consensus to recommend that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be indicted on corruption charges, according to a report Wednesday.

Police chiefs met Wednesday to discuss what they believe to be sufficient evidence to indict Netanyahu for taking bribes, The Ynet news site reported.

As the meetings were taking place, Netanyahu published a video to Facebook assuring people that he accepted no bribes.

“Many of you are asking what is going to happen,” Netanyahu said, according to Ynet. “So I’m here to calm you down, there won’t be anything, because I know the truth.”

“There may be recommendation, but there was nothing,” Netanyahu continued.

The local news outlet noted that the police did appoint a team to find “holes” in the case prior to recommending the charges to the state attorney’s office.

The threat of a criminal indictment has hung over Netanyahu for months after allegations that he took bribes from wealthy campaign contributors in exchange for political favor were put forth in August 2017
