Vermont Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy questioned Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions about President-elect Trump’s past remarks caught on video about using his celebrity status to “grab” women “by the pussy.”
Trump’s remarks, caught on a hot mic in a 2005 video, surfaced in the final months of his presidential campaign and damaged his standing in the polls.
During Tuesday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing for Sessions’ attorney general nomination, Leahy peppered Sessions with questions about Trump’s words.

“We had a dust-up in the press. As you recall when Mr. Trump bragged about how he had grabbed women and so on … Is grabbing a woman by her genitals without consent, is that sexual assault?” Leahy asked.
“Clearly, it would be,” Sessions answered.
Leahy then pressed Sessions on whether a sitting president could be investigated for sexual assault.
“The president is subject to certain lawful restrictions and they would be required to be applied by the appropriate law enforcement official if appropriate, yes,” Sessions answered.
Leahy then asked again whether grabbing a woman by the genitals without her consent amounted to sexual assault and Sessions again replied yes.
