Alveda King, niece of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., questioned whether former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick understands the person whose flag design he was protesting.
During a Wednesday appearance on Your World with Neil Cavuto, King said, “I’m not so sure brother Kaepernick even totally understands who Betsy Ross is.”
“I think it’s kind of unfortunate that we’re fighting over sneakers when we should celebrating living in the best country on the planet.”
King added that the national conversation should be focused on “renewal,” “restoration,” and “reconciliation” and on larger issues, such as “babies being aborted in the womb.”
“Unfortunately, Nike decided to join in a fight and a struggle that further divides rather than reconciles. … It’s just really sad,” she added.
