Tom Cotton criticizes MLB for punishing Georgia over voting law while partnering with communist China

Sen. Tom Cotton and many other conservatives slammed Major League Baseball in response to the league’s decision to move the 2021 All-Star Game out of Georgia due to a recently enacted election integrity law.

“Hey @MLB, how many days of early voting are allowed in China?” the Arkansas Republican tweeted after MLB released a statement slamming the Georgia law and suggesting it would restrict voting access and that it didn’t align with the “values” of the league.

Others on social media pointed out that MLB also partnered with Cuba and held a baseball game in the communist country that was attended by then-President Barack Obama.

“No MLB All-Star game in Atlanta because of a voting law but a MLB game in communist Cuba was perfectly acceptable to the league,” Newsmax correspondent Logan Ratick tweeted.

Former President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., called on Republicans in Congress to repeal the league’s antitrust exemption.

“Republicans in Congress should immediately move to repeal the @MLB‘s anti-trust exemption,” he tweeted. “Grow some balls and fight fire with fire.”

Democrats, including President Joe Biden, had been urging baseball to relocate the game as punishment for the Georgia law that they insist would restrict voting access. Republicans in the state have vehemently disagreed with that assessment and argued the law is aimed at preventing fraud.

Biden appeared on ESPN Thursday night and described the Georgia law as “Jim Crow on steroids” and repeated the claim that voting booths close at 5 p.m. despite receiving “Four Pinocchios” for that very claim from the Washington Post days earlier.

The Washington Post’s Glenn Kessler pointed out in the article that nowhere in the law are voting hours limited and early voting was, in fact, expanded by the legislation.
