The fact that Diane Devaney, founder and president of Devaney and Associates, was extremely upset when she had to lay off an employee last year ironically says everything about the way she does business.
Devaney currently has 15 employees, 14 of whom are women, which Devaney said was “totally by accident.” Many of her employees have been with the company for many years, making for a tight-knit group of people.
“I have great employees, we have very low turnover,” Devaney said. “I have a lot of longevity in my staff. It really helps the team work well together.”
The company hosts an annual spa day for everyone, and, in November, the entire team plus spouses are going to a Ravens game.
As well as having close relationships between the staff, Devaney and Associates works on maintaining close relationships with their clients.
Teresa Fletcher, director of marketing and PR for Carroll Hospital Center, said that Carroll has been a client of Devaney for about 10 years.
“They do an excellent job of meeting our needs and keeping our looks fresh,” Fletcher said. “I think there?s a lot to be said for building a relationship with a company, they can anticipate our needs a little bit better because they know us so well.”
The firm handles about 50 ongoing clients around the country. Devaney estimates that 60 percent are in-state, based on last year?s billings.
“We?re lucky because we have a good relationship with all of our clients,” she said. “We really work with them to help them grow their products and services. We are very results-oriented.”
