Scarborough: Freedom won’t die if Trump is elected

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough said freedom won’t die even if Donald Trump is elected president.

The host of “Morning Joe” said during a Tuesday broadcast from the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia that if anybody thinks the Founding Fathers’ constitutional government will not “withstand four years of Donald Trump, then they are fools because I will tell you we have a government in Washington, D.C., that will chew him up and spit him out in about two days.”

The former Republican lawmaker said he is “sick and tired” of hearing that the end is nigh no matter who is elected to the White House. Mocking Republican congressmen going to the House floor to protest Democratic presidents, he said in a nasally Southern drawl “Mr. Speaker, tonight freedom has died.”

“Is that Louie Gohmert?” asked one of the panel participants, referring to the Texas representative known for making dramatic statements. “No, it’s everyone,” said Scarborough, who argued Democrats are just as guilty of using nearly apocalyptic language to describe political leaders who are not members of their own party.

Hosting live from the city where the Constitution was formed, Scarborough said the separation of power will continue to work to ensure that even Trump cannot “steamroll over” the members of the other branches of government.

“So please stop with the Donald Trump is a fascist, he’s going to take over the world. It’s BS. Our Constitution … has withstood about 19 depressions, a civil war, a Great Depression, World War II; it can withstand anybody who gets elected to the White House.”

Co-host Mika Brzezinski said in response that “the question is, the American people will decide if they want to watch that happen.”
