Republican Wilt claims Va. House seat

Republican Tony O. Wilt cruised to victory in a race to fill a vacant House seat in Virginia’s General Assembly.

Wilt received 6,209 votes in Tuesday’s special election for the 26th House District seat, according to the state’s Board of Elections’ Website.

Former Del. Matt Lohr is the new commissioner of agriculture. The district encompasses Harrisonburg and northern Rockingham County.

Harrisonburg Democratic Mayor Kai Degner netted 2,820 votes and City Councilwoman Carolyn Frank, independent, 391 votes.
