Lindsey Graham: Republicans ‘don’t deserve to stay in power’ if Kavanaugh isn’t confirmed

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Republicans do not deserve to hold their majorities in Congress this November if they fail to get Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh confirmed by the Senate.

“To my Republican colleagues, if this guy goes down, then we don’t deserve to stay in power, ’cause it’s not about power to me. It is about the process. It is about honoring elections,” the South Carolina Republican told Fox News host Sean Hannity late Thursday.

Graham had rebuked Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee Thursday afternoon for having information about Christine Blasey Ford’s allegations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh but not bringing them up to all committee members until last week, days before the committee was scheduled to take place.

Hannity dubbed Graham’s comments before the body the most powerful moment in his career.

“I just told the truth,” said Graham. “This is not about finding the truth between Dr. Ford and Brett Kavanaugh. It’s about delaying the hearing to get past the midterms.”

Graham reiterated Ford is a victim, if not by Kavanaugh, for how Democrats used her story to manipulate the confirmation process. Graham said Kavanaugh could be a victim of the GOP should they not stand by him in the upcoming votes in the committee and chamber.

“I think Republicans today felt like Brett Kavanaugh not only met the test, passed the test, that this is political, and I will be brokenhearted if the Senate rejects this good man,” he said.
