Fairfax County officials have chosen Edward Long Jr., a former deputy county executive, to step up to the top job when County Executive Tony Griffin retires this month, The Washington Post is reporting.
The board may appoint Long as early as Tuesday. He retired last year but returned soon after to help the county bring a new computer system, called FOCUS, online.
Griffin has been county executive for more than 10 years.
