House Speaker Paul Ryan struggled to set the record straight Tuesday night about the chances of his accepting the Republican presidential nomination.
The former 2012 running mate to Mitt Romney told CBS’ “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert a dozen times that he does not plan to steal the nomination from one of the current candidates nor would he accept the nomination in a brokered convention.
“Yes or no, would you accept the nomination?” Colbert prodded.
“No, Stephen. I have said I do not want nor would I accept the Republican nomination,” Ryan responded.
“Got it. So you’re considering the nomination?” Colbert fired back.
“No, I’m not,” Ryan said.
Colbert continued, asking Ryan if he asked in a number of phrases if he would be the nominee, but the Wisconsin congressman only laughed off the inquiries.
