More than 4 million files obtained from President Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen will be handed over to prosecutors this week.
U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood ordered Tuesday that lawyers for Trump, Cohen, and the Trump Organization must determine which items are subject to attorney-client privilege or are considered highly personal by Wednesday evening.
Prosecutors will have access to the files after Wednesday’s deadline, the Associated Press reports. However, Wood also determined that the Trump Organization had until July 5 to make final designations on 22,000 documents.
On Monday, Cohen’s attorney claimed that 12,000 files — less than 1 percent of those obtained from the FBI raid — are subject to attorney-client privilege.
Cohen’s home and office were raided by the FBI in April, where agents seized computers, phones, and other materials of Cohen’s, including documents pertaining to adult film star Stormy Daniels, who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Cohen is under investigation for potentially violating tax or campaign finance laws.
It was reported last week that Cohen, who has not been charged with a crime yet, had hired Guy Petrillo to represent him ahead of federal court proceedings in New York. Petrillo previously led the criminal division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York, the same office that is probing Cohen’s business dealings.
