Bobby Knight set to stump for Trump in Indiana

Former Indiana basketball coach and Basketball Hall-of-Famer Bobby Knight will join the campaign trail Wednesday to stump for Donald Trump ahead of the Indiana primary.

In a press release, Trump’s campaign announced that “legendary coach Bobby Knight” will join Trump at a campaign event in Indianapolis, which will take place less than a week before the state’s May 3 primary.

Knight coached at Indiana University for 30 seasons, winning 662 games in the process before being dismissed for repeatedly violating the program’s zero tolerance policy, which included him putting his hand around one of his player’s necks in 1997.

The coach then spent his final seven seasons coaching at Texas Tech and won a total of 902 games before retiring and joining ESPN as a basketball analyst.

Trump has been supported by a number of athletic figures with checkered backgrounds since announcing his bid, including Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman and John Rocker. Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan, previously the head coach of the New York Jets, stumped for Trump in New York.

He currently leads in Indiana with 39.3 percent support, topping Sen. Ted Cruz (33 percent) by a 6.3-point margin, according to statewide polling averages.
