‘Pandemics like coronavirus’: Warren accuses Trump of attempting to limit virus research

Elizabeth Warren equated the deadly coronavirus with Ebola and accused President Trump of attempting to limit funding on research into the diseases.

“After Ebola, Congress invested to prevent pandemics like coronavirus,” the Massachusetts Democrat tweeted. “Donald Trump tried to cut that funding. As president, I’ll fully fund global health security, research on medical countermeasures, and public health capacity at home to keep us safe and healthy.”

Trump, 73, has attacked Warren, 70, in the past over her claims of Native American heritage. Warren said she would create a task force to investigate Trump when she is president.

Coronavirus was first spotted in the central Chinese city of Wuhan and has already killed 17 people, leading officials to shutter transportation in and out of the city. Doctors wearing hazmat suits were videotaped tending to patients inside hospitals throughout China where the virus has mutated and spread.

The Centers for Disease Control confirmed on Wednesday that one person traveling back from Wuhan, China, was quarantined in the state of Washington after being found carrying the virus.

Trump urged caution and said he trusts Chinese President Xi Jinping to control the outbreak.
