White House journalist tests positive for coronavirus

A journalist who attended two briefings at the White House this week has tested positive for COVID-19, according to the White House Correspondents’ Association.

A memo sent to members said the individual had worn a mask while on the complex and said that the White House had offered to test anyone who attended the briefings on Monday and Wednesday.

“The individual is asymptomatic,” wrote WHCA President Jonathan Karl. “We are contacting those who the individual recalled being in closer contact.

“Other than the briefings, this person did not spend time working out of the White House and was only in briefing room itself, not elsewhere in our workspace.”

Last month, the White House ended the practice of taking the temperature of anyone entering the compound as it wound down its coronavirus protections.

Correspondents are encouraged to work from home unless they are attending briefings, which are currently running at less than a third of capacity to allow for social distancing.
