Occupy DC is planning to deck the halls in McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza this holiday season even though many of the protesters plan to head home to their families for Christmas. McPherson Square Occupiers are trying to get a projector so they can watch holiday movies, and they’re planning a New Year’s Eve party with live music, food and drinks. The Occupiers at Freedom Plaza hosted an interfaith ceremony on Christmas Eve with a holiday meal, entertainment and a caroling session.
Some McPherson Occupiers, who arrived in October, say they see the holiday season as a time to regroup and take stock of the movement after an eventful month that included two large-scale protests with dozens of arrests, the alleged theft of nearly $10,000 from their bank account and a fight in which two U.S. Park Police officers were assaulted.
“We’re at a turning point right now,” said protester J.J. Heyward. “It’s time to reorganize.”
