A record streak of the hottest months came to an end in September, the federal government said Tuesday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said September was the second hottest on record, which brought a record-setting 16-month streak of the hottest months on record to an end.
Nevertheless, the federal agency said that despite the lower global temperatures in September, this year is still on track to be the warmest since 1880, since the first nine months far exceeded the average temperatures of the 20th century by nearly 1.78 degrees Fahrenheit. That’s 0.23 degrees above the record set in 2015.
