Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned New Yorkers who have not been vaccinated that they need to practice “civic responsibility” and get the shot, otherwise they could “wind up killing your grandmother.”
“My argument is, yeah, maybe you’ll be fine. And by the way, you don’t know that either. We’ve had a lot of young people who have died,” Cuomo said during a press conference Monday about New York’s target to get more people vaccinated.
“Maybe you will get a long haul syndrome that we’re not really sure what it is yet, but a lingering consequence of COVID. Or maybe you go home and kiss your grandmother and wind up killing your grandma. So, show some civic responsibility.”

CUOMO IGNORES PRESSURE FROM CONGRESSIONAL DEMOCRATS TO RESIGN
His comments come as he is under federal investigation for his handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secretary to the Governor Melissa DeRosa acknowledged and apologized earlier this year for hiding the state’s coronavirus death toll in nursing homes stemming from a controversial March 25, 2020, order.
Cuomo acknowledged that his administration caused a “void” in not producing data on nursing homes but has downplayed the scandal.
He has already faced pushback on social media for his Monday comments in light of the nursing home scandal, including from Rep. Andy Biggs.

The New York Democrat is currently also facing an investigation over sexual misconduct claims from 10 different women, including claims of unwanted touching and kissing.

Cuomo, however, has refused to step down from office amid the controversies.
“I’m not going to resign,” Cuomo said on March 12, adding that he was not “elected by the politicians but by the people.”
