New Baltimore mayor names top staff members

Veteran Del. Salima Siler Marriott might have lost her state senator bid for Baltimore?s 40th district this year, but she has joined the staff of Baltimore City?s next mayor Sheila Dixon.

Dixon appointed Marriott on Wednesday as her deputy mayor of Community and Human Development.

“We acknowledge that every citizen has potential,” Marriott said. “We are committed to developing that potential.”

Other new major appointments announced at City Hall included Chief of Staff Otis Rolley III and Deputy Mayor for Neighborhood and Economic Development Andrew Frank.

Rolley most recently served as the director of planning for the city, and Frank is currently executive vice president of the City of Baltimore Development Corp.

“In very distinct and tangible ways, Otis, Andy and Salima have each contributed greatly to the rejuvenation and growth of Baltimore City,” Dixon said. “Together, they bring a comprehensive resume of experience that makes them uniquely qualified to quickly address the many opportunities and challenges facing Baltimore.”

In January, Marriott will be ending her 16-year career representing the 40th District, where she served as chairwoman of the city?s delegation since 1999.

Dixon is taking over Baltimore at a time when the city is in good shape, Frank said.

“We have a foundation to build on that wasn?t necessarily there six years ago,” Frank said.

Rolley called serving in the public sector the “highest honor.”

“Mayor-designee Dixon has shown us that she has a vision for the City of Baltimore, and it is a privilege and an honor to help her implement that vision,” Rolley said.
