Gun control protests target GOP district offices

Activists were planning to continue their pro-gun control demonstrations at congressional offices around the country on Wednesday, to keep up the efforts of Democrats who staged a 25-hour sit-in on the House floor last week.

The House is in recess this week, and returns on July 5. But the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence announced Wednesday that more than 60 demonstrations will be held at congressional district offices across the country.

“The feckless politicians who, buckling to the corporate gun lobby, snuck out of the people’s house at three in the morning to avoid a vote on lifesaving bills are in for a rude awakening,” said Brady Campaign President Dan Gross. “They think they can rush out of work to start their vacation early while 90 of their constituents die every day? Hell no. Brady is going to hold you accountable, either here in Washington or at home in your district.”

The activists plan to target the offices of politicians who oppose gun reform, which means GOP offices are the main targets.

The campaign believes that if lawmakers voted to “expand Brady background checks to all gun sales” they will “disarm hate.” The campaign is the result of the shooting in Orlando that left 49 club-goers dead, and 53 injured.

The activists’ hope is that their demonstrations will force Congress to vote on gun control legislation following their return from vacation.
