Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., is not planning to run for re-election in 2018 and is anticipated to make it official in an announcement Tuesday, according to multiple reports.
Gutierrez, who has been vocal about immigration reform and relief for Puerto Rico after several devastating hurricanes, is expected to formally declare he is withdrawing his nominating petitions on Tuesday, Politico reported Monday night.
Gutierrez has held his seat since 1993. Jesus Garcia, former Chicago mayoral candidate and Cook County Commissioner, and Carlos Ramirez-Rosa, Chicago’s 35th Ward alderman, have expressed interest in taking his seat, sources told Politico.
Mary Ann Ahern, a reporter in Chicago, reported Monday Gutierrez filed for re-election but pulled his paperwork Monday.
